Another messy job

I usually cut the cattails in the upper pond back once a year in an attempt to keep them somewhat under control, and to clear out the dead growth. I waited longer than I probably should have this year, because they exploded at the slightest touch, covering everything nearby (including me) in cattail fluff.

But look! Peach blossoms!

A messy but necessary job

We decided that it was necessary to completely rebuild the streambed running between the upper and lower ponds. The dirt had settled under the rubber liner to an extent that any temporary disruption of water flow by plant growth would result in leakage into the raised bed area. Among other things, this meant removing and washing all the rocks which lined its bottom and sides.

Broccoli take one

Time to pick the broccoli! My favorite way to prepare it is roasted with a little garlic salt and olive oil, then toss it with some fresh lemon and Parmesan cheese.

The morning after

Eggplant and tomatoes are not a pretty picture today, but I did manage to salvage a few.

Frost is in the air

Too bad for these tomatoes. We would have had a bumper crop otherwise.
